That marked an increase of 149 submissions year-on-year, following 455 submissions from 44 countries in 2025, 441 from 44 countries in 2024 and 399 from 50 countries in 2023. Submissions from Asia reached 423, up 82 from the previous year, while Korean submissions rose to 137, up 58.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tFrom that pool, 30 projects representing 20 countries were selected. The lineup spans courtroom drama, coming-of-age story, family drama, crime thriller, queer romantic comedy, black comedy and mystery thriller, with the selected works touching on social realities, personal identity, family relationships and ethical tensions within communities. The slate mixes feature debuts from emerging filmmakers with new projects from directors already recognized on the festival circuit.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThree Japanese projects made the cut: \u201c13\u201d from Mori Tatsuya, who claimed BIFF\u2019s New Currents prize in 2023 for \u201cSeptember 1923\u201d; \u201cWings of Return (working title)\u201d from Hirose Nanako; and \u201cYours\u201d from Igarashi Kohei.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tCentral and South Asian filmmakers also feature prominently. Kyrgyzstan\u2019s Dastan Zhapar Ryskeldi joins APM for a third time with \u201cBosogo,\u201d while Sri Lanka\u2019s Prasanna Vithanage presents \u201cIslands,\u201d following \u201cParadise,\u201d which took the Jiseok prize at BIFF in 2023. India\u2019s Dominic Sangma brings \u201cVeil of Dust,\u201d examining tragic contradictions within a community, and Tribeny Rai returns with her second project, \u201cA Chronicle of Minor Things\u201d (working title). Rounding out the region are Payal Sethi\u2019s \u201cBabak,\u201d Stenzin Tankyong\u2019s feature debut \u201cIdiot (Kakthet)\u201d and Pakistani director Eshah Shakeel\u2019s feature debut \u201cDancers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tChina, Hong Kong and Taiwan contributed four selections, pairing emerging filmmakers with experienced producers. Reza Rahadian Matulessy follows debut feature \u201cOn Your Lap,\u201d which picked up three prizes in BIFF\u2019s Vision \u2013 Asia sidebar in 2025, with second feature \u201cCasparina.\u201d Cambodia\u2019s Chheangkea has his first feature, \u201cLittle Phnom Penh,\u201d selected, while the Philippines\u2019 E Del Mundo brings \u201cOnce Upon a Time in the Philippines\u201d and Iran\u2019s Mehrnoush Alia presents \u201cBon Voyage.\u201d Singapore\u2019s Alvin Lee offers black comedy \u201cTalk To Me When You Are Dead,\u201d and Malaysia\u2019s Tan Seng Kiat presents \u201cOne Fine Day,\u201d which took the APM Next prize at TCCF 2025. Also selected are Thailand\u2019s Panu Aree with \u201cF\u0101timah\u201d and Indonesia\u2019s Mouly Surya with \u201cThe Wife Who Can See Dead People (Or Jinn).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSeven Korean projects round out the slate. Lee Sangcheol, whose films \u201cJesus Hospital,\u201d \u201cThe Snob\u201d and \u201cBlesser\u201d have all screened at BIFF, presents \u201cPARK Deul-bi.\u201d Choi Hyunyoung, whose \u201cMemories of a Dead End\u201d played in Korean Cinema Today \u2013 Panorama, brings \u201cAll\u2019s Well That Ends Well,\u201d and Lee Hanju, whose debut feature \u201cThe Waves of Winter\u201d screened in the Korean Cinema Today \u2013 Vision strand, presents \u201cThe Family Table.\u201d The remaining Korean selections are Park Syeyoung\u2019s \u201cSatellite of Love,\u201d Park Joonho\u2019s \u201cKuroshio\u201d (Park also directed \u201c3670\u201d), actor-director Ryu Hyunkyung\u2019s \u201cDog Fight\u201d and novelist-filmmaker Kim Jinyeong\u2019s \u201cRed Hunger\u201d; Kim previously directed \u201cThe Other Child.\u201d The seven projects span psychological thriller, queer romantic comedy, black comedy, mystery thriller and drama.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSelected projects will be nominated for awards backed by sponsors.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tACFM is the official market of the Busan International Film Festival and is held in Busan every October. The 2025 edition, ACFM\u2019s 20th, drew industry professionals from 55 countries \u2013 3,024 of them, alongside 1,222 registered companies \u2013 with on-site attendance reaching a record 30,006.
