\n\tThe \u201cClueless\u201d sequel series has found a new home. The show, which will see Alicia Silverstone reprise the role of Cher Horowitz, has been greenlit at Paramount+. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe project was originally set up for development at Peacock in early 2025, but it was reported in April 2026 that it was no longer moving forward at that streaming service. Sources say that Paramount+ has given the show a six-episode order. It is slated to begin production in Los Angeles in 2027. According to sources, the production has submitted paperwork with the California Film Commission to receive state tax subsidies.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs previously reported, the show will be set in the present day. The logline states, \u201cBeloved Beverly Hills icon Cher Horowitz (Silverstone) has figured out a lot: She\u2019s successful in business and has mastered motherhood\u2014that is, until her daughter\u2019s high school years, and Cher finds that parenting a teenager makes her feel \u2018clueless\u2019 all over again.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThe greenlight makes sense on a number of fronts. \u201cClueless\u201d was originally released by Paramount Pictures in 1995, meaning the series will now stay in-house rather than going to an outside streamer. Universal Television was attached as co-studio when the project was set up at Peacock, but will now be produced solely by Paramount-owned CBS Studios.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition, Paramount+ has been in the market for more female-skewing content ever since the Paramount-Skydance merger was completed and Cindy Holland took on oversight of Paramount\u2019s direct-to-consumer business. To that end, Holland\u2019s team has already commissioned the legal drama \u201cDiscretion\u201d starring Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning as well as the limited series \u201cFear Not\u201d starring Anne Hathaway.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe new \u201cClueless\u201d series is written by Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, and Jordan Weiss. All three are executive producers, with Schwartz and Savage producing under their Fake Empire banner. Silverstone also executive produces, as does the film\u2019s writer and director, Amy Heckerling, as well as the film\u2019s producer, Robert Lawrence. CBS Studios will produce.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u2019Clueless\u2019 is coming home,\u201d said Jane Wiseman, head of Originals for Paramount+. \u201cThirty-one years ago, Alicia Silverstone\u2019s Cher Horowitz captivated audiences with her signature chic style, sharp wit and relentless optimism, helping make \u2018Clueless\u2019 a box office hit and instant pop culture classic. We\u2019re especially proud to be filming this much-anticipated series in Los Angeles, honoring its starring role in the original film while investing in the city\u2019s exceptional talent and crews.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cClueless\u201d originally debuted in 1995 and is loosely based on the Jane Austen novel \u201cEmma.\u201d Along with Silverstone, the cast included Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, Donald Faison, Elisa Donovan, Breckin Meyer, and Dan Hedaya. A TV adaptation aired on ABC and then UPN from 1996 until 1999 for three seasons, with Rachel Blanchard playing Cher. The film was also recently added to the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.<\/p>\n
