\n\tBest known in Hollywood for playing opposite Adam Sandler in \u201cSpanglish,\u201d Spanish actor Paz Vega is set to direct \u201cAna No,\u201d a feature film starring Angela Molina (\u201cThat Obscure Object of Desire\u201d) and sold at this year\u2019s Cannes Festival by Film Factory Entertainment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAna No\u201d marks Vega\u2019s second movie as a director after the well-received \u201cRita,\u201d which world premiered in 2024 at Locarno\u2019s Piazza Grande.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tSet in late\u201960s Spain, \u201cAna No\u201d turns on widow Ana, 75, who senses she has little time to live. Closing her home for ever in a tiny village in Almer\u00eda, southern Spain, she sets off on an odyssey to see her only son who survived the Spanish Civil War \u2013 jailed for the last 30 years in Northern Spain. The journey proves a belated act of self-discovery.<\/p>\n

\n\tAna\u2019s odyssey becomes an \u201cintimate heart-rending epic which will move spectators deeply with its realism and rawness,\u201d said Vega, who will present Ana no\u201d at Cannes on May 17.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHer journey towards death will also be a portrait of a a court wounded by a war between brothers, and of a generation of women silenced and forgotten,\u201d Vega added. The film will be a cinema of atmosphere, suggesting rather than explaining, of a strange beauty.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tBased on a novel by Goncourt Prize finalist Agust\u00edn G\u00f3mez Arcos, \u201cAna no\u201d will go into production this fall.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis moving adaptation is a powerful testimony of resistance and memory,\u201d said Film Factory head Vicente Canales. \u201cDriven by Paz Vega\u2019s masterful direction and an extraordinary performance by \u00c1ngela Molina, the film promises an exceptional experience.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAna no\u201d is produced by Spain\u2019s Aralan Films (\u201cSaturn Return\u201d), a top producer in Andalusia which backed \u201cRita,\u201d and Madrid-based Blacklight Films (\u201cAire\u201d) along with Italy\u2019s Ombre Rosse Film Production (\u201cIl sogno dei pastori).\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tBTeam Pictures, which released \u201cSir\u0101t\u201d and Sundays,\u201d will handle distribution in Spain.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tSpain\u2019s Marta Velasco and Paul Mateos Berdejo and Italy\u2019s Andrea Di Blassio and. Luca Cabriolu serve as producers, Sandra Rodriguez as executive producer. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tScoring Vega a Spanish Academy Goya Award nomination for best new director, \u201cRita\u201d was described as a \u201csubtly affecting directing debut\u201d by U.K. newspaper The Guardian. As an actor Vega scored a best new actress Goya Award for her performance Julio Medem\u2019s \u201cSex and Luc\u00eda.\u201d<\/p>\n
