\n\tAcclaimed Bengali cinema actor Parno Mittra is stepping behind the camera as a producer for the first time with \u201cThe Music Teacher,\u201d a British-Indian short film starring Raima Sen that begins principal photography this month in Kolkata.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe project is co-produced by Tabernacle Street Films (U.K.) and Unscripted Co (India), the production banner Mittra is launching with this film. Written and directed by Shrimoyee Chakraborty, \u201cThe Music Teacher\u201d is her first Bengali narrative film, following her documentary \u201cSpirit of the Wildflower\u201d and her work as creator and presenter of \u201cIndia Bites.\u201d Chakraborty also produces for Tabernacle Street Films, alongside Mittra\u2019s producing role for Unscripted Co. Editor Aarti Bajaj, known for her work on \u201cJab We Met,\u201d \u201cRockstar,\u201d \u201cHighway,\u201d \u201cTamasha,\u201d \u201cSacred Games,\u201d \u201cJubilee\u201d and \u201cAmar Singh Chamkila,\u201d comes aboard as co-producer.<\/p>\n

\n\tSen takes the title role, with Niranjan Mondal, who appeared in \u201cLaughtersane,\u201d rounding out the cast.<\/p>\n

\n\tInspired by Chakraborty\u2019s mother, \u201cThe Music Teacher\u201d is set in North Kolkata and centers on a young man struggling with depression who finds a path back to life through a teacher of Rabindra Sangeet, the genre of songs composed by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore that remains central to Bengali culture. The film is billed as a tribute to Rabindra Sangeet and the educators who have preserved Bengal\u2019s cultural heritage across generations, exploring resilience and human connection.<\/p>\n

\n\tMittra has spent more than two decades building a career as one of Bengali cinema\u2019s most established actors, with credits including \u201cDoob (No Bed of Roses),\u201d \u201cRajkahini,\u201d \u201cApur Panchali\u201d and \u201cRanjana Ami Ar Ashbona.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u2018The Music Teacher\u2019 embodies the kind of cinema I want Unscripted Co to champion \u2013 stories that are deeply rooted, emotionally resonant and capable of travelling across cultures,\u201d Mittra said. \u201cAfter more than two decades as an actor, producing this film marks an exciting new chapter in my creative journey. As our first production, this project represents the beginning of the vision I have for Unscripted Co, and I couldn\u2019t have asked for a more inspiring team to bring it to life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u2018The Music Teacher\u2019 is my love letter to my mother, to Rabindra Sangeet and to Kolkata,\u201d Chakraborty added. \u201cIt\u2019s an incredibly personal story, and I\u2019m honored to be making it alongside such an extraordinary team.\u201d<\/p>\n
