Where mainstream local filmmaking tends toward restraint, this picture pursues the opposite: explicit violence, sexuality and dark humor treated as formal choices rather than shock tactics, marking out a more transgressive current within contemporary Malaysian independent film.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe Azizuddin Brothers have spent the better part of a decade making work that sidesteps genre convention and mainstream expectation. Earlier features include the multi-character drama \u201cAngkat,\u201d the psychological thriller \u201cTafakur,\u201d the period-inflected \u201cThis Land of Mine\u201d and the horror entry \u201cKabus.\u201d \u201cAngkat\u201d screened at the 2024 Blue Chair Film Festival in Luang Prabang, Laos, where it received its world premiere. More recently, Feisk Productions cleared its crowdfunding target for \u201cFalse Summits,\u201d a documentary about a Malaysian mountaineer who died attempting Gunung Tahan, the tallest summit on the Malay Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAbnormal Studios, a Westec Media Limited subsidiary, brings roughly 100 titles a year to market across Southeast Asia as well as Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Mongolia and Nepal.
