The union said ABC and WGAE \u201chave engaged in productive and constructive discussions, reflecting a shared commitment to maintaining a collaborative and supportive workplace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIn a union election counted Friday, July 31, voters in ABC News Digital\u2019s approximately 50-member bargaining unit voted unanimously to be represented by the WGAE for the purposes of collective bargaining. The unit includes digital reporters, editors, video producers and social media producers at ABC News.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIn a statement, members of the ABC News Digital bargaining unit said, \u201cThe industry is changing at a rapid pace, and we want to help shape the version of ABC News that will emerge from this transition. We are excited to join hundreds of our ABC News broadcast colleagues and thousands of our fellow Disney employees who are represented by unions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cThe WGAE has represented unionized workers at ABC News since the 1960s,\u201d WGAE president Tom Fontana said in a statement. \u201cWe appreciate that management engaged in productive conversations for recognition, and we look forward to winning union protections for ABC News\u2019 digital staff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=5561\">\u2018Ted Lasso\u2019 Producer Brendan Hunt on What It Took to Revive the Series, Why Some Characters Didn\u2019t Return and Whether There\u2019s Another Three-Season Plan<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\tIn addition to those at ABC News, WGA East\u2019s Broadcast\/Cable\/Streaming News sector represents workers at CBS News, CBS News Digital, CBS News 24\/7 and WBBM CBS 2 News; MS NOW; NBC Promo Writers; 1010 WINS; Audacy (WCBS-AM, WBBM-AM and KNX-AM); Fox 5 WNYW-TV; and Thirteen Productions (Thirteen\/WNET).<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe Writers Guild of America East, which is affiliated with AFL-CIO, has more than 7,500 members working in film, TV, news, podcasts and online media.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tLast month, the WGA East and the Writers Guild of America West together filed an antitrust lawsuit seeking to block the Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger, alleging it would reduce writers\u2019 pay and undermine competition in three labor markets: blockbuster scripts, writing for episodic shows and writers\u2019 overall deals. That\u2019s in addition to the lawsuit filed by 12 state attorneys general seeking to stop the Paramount-WBD deal.
