\n\t\u201cThe Secret Agent\u201d breakout T\u00e2nia Maria has joined Leonardo Lacca\u2019s \u201cS\u00e1bado Morto\u201d (\u201cDead Saturday,\u201d in literal translation). Produced by Kleber Mendon\u00e7a Filho and Emilie Lesclaux\u2019s banner Cinemasc\u00f3pio, the film stars Jesu\u00edta Barbosa (\u201cLatin Blood \u2013 The Ballad of Ney Matogrosso\u201d) and is currently being filmed between Recife and the Pernambuco countryside in Brazil.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cS\u00e1bado Morto\u201d centres around a medical resident in Recife who is forced by an unexpected event to return to his hometown in the backlands of Pernambuco after years away. There, he reunited with his mother, Terezinha, who is determined to find answers to the mysteries of recent events. Amid memories and unease, secrets begin to emerge. The story will be shot across five weeks between the capital of Recife and the Arcoverde region, in the countryside of Pernambuco. The cast also includes Malu Falangola, M\u00facia Teixeira, and Matteus Cardoso.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film marks Lacca\u2019s third directorial effort, following \u201cPerman\u00eancia\u201d and \u201cSeu Cavalcanti,\u201d and the third collaboration between the director\u2019s label Trincheira Filmes and Cinemasc\u00f3pio. Lacca has worked as a director, screenwriter, and acting coach for 20 years, serving as an assistant director on Kleber Mendon\u00e7a Filho\u2019s \u201cBacurau\u201d and \u201cThe Secret Agent,\u201d as well as working as an acting coach on his other two fiction feature films: \u201cAquarius\u201d and \u201cNeighboring Sounds.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tOscar-nominated Lesclaux said it has been \u201cvery special\u201d to see the universe of the film come to life,\u201d with Lacca adding it\u2019s been wonderful to collaborate with the producer once more. \u201cWe are experiencing a very intense and beautiful process,\u201d he added. \u201cWe are even more excited for the next phase of filming in the spectacular Pernambuco backlands.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tT\u00e2nia Maria\u2019s first onscreen role came as an extra with one line in \u201cBacurau.\u201d Her meatier character Dona Sebastiana in \u201cThe Secret Agent\u201d has been lovingly embraced by Brazilians and fans across the world, with her performance earning awards and accolades during the film\u2019s successful run. Maria is collaborating with Lacca for the first time, having acted in \u201cSeu Cavalcanti\u201d and the series \u201cDelegado,\u201d still to premiere on Canal Brasil.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWorking with T\u00e2nia is always wonderful,\u201d gushed Lacca. \u201cIt\u2019s great to film with her again and with a character whose path is so different from what she\u2019s done before. It\u2019s wonderful to see how versatile she is. Her presence lights up the set and everyone is charmed and captivated by her. We\u2019ve gained intimacy and built a grandmother-grandson relationship. There\u2019s so much beauty in this transformation of her life, in her discovery as an actress, that it ends up spilling over into our personal relationships as well.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
