Being on par with my father and my brother fills me with so much emotion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tDuring her masterclass at the fest, Rossellini \u2013 who holds a master\u2019s degree in Animal Behavior and Conservation \u2013 also opened up about her popular web series \u201cGreen Porno\u201d and \u201cSeduce Me,\u201d about animal mating rituals.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cI know nothing about computers. I don\u2019t speak that language, so I made these films the way I knew how: super low-tech. I watched a lot of [Georges] M\u00e9li\u00e8s. It was a no-tech technique. Animals, to me, they fascinate me. I have a farm and when I decided to make films myself, they became my muses,\u201d she said. In her new film, she will play all the roles. But she would like to concentrate on directing more in the future.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cI am just fascinated by biology and diversity. When someone says: \u2018It\u2019s against nature to be gay or trans\u2019 \u2014 it\u2019s not! I don\u2019t sit down to write something political or poetic, but I discover that some worms are hermaphrodites. I am just always so surprised. That\u2019s my inspiration \u2013 not politics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tShe can\u2019t ignore the ongoing political situation in the U.S., however.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cWe are thinking of going back, but I have sheep, I have land. Should I abandon everything? I just hope things will improve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cMy first passion was animals. Even when I was a kid, I would take stray dogs and take them home.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\n\tStill, she had to follow her second passion first \u2013 for a while, she worked on her father\u2019s films as a costume designer. I didn\u2019t think I would become an actress.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\tDiscouraged by early critics, she pursued modeling and journalism, too.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cWhen you are criticized publicly, as it happened with \u2018The Meadow,\u2019 it\u2019s really hard. Being successful in the fashion world really reassured me. I worked with Avedon, and he told me: \u2018Models are like silent movie stars. You have no lines, but I shoot the emotion.\u2019 I was asked to be in films, maybe because I was Ingrid Bergman\u2019s daughter, and I said: \u2018Why not\u2019?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cI met David at a restaurant. We were both there with members of the De Laurentis family, and we joined the tables. He said: \u2018You look like Ingrid Bergman.\u2019 They said: \u2018You idiot, she is her daughter!\u2019 When I got the script, there was a note: \u2018Why don\u2019t you read it and tell me if you want to play this character. I loved it, but it was so controversial. I asked him if I could rehearse the scenes to see if my interpretation matches his [vision]. He said: \u2018You got it right.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cDavid was not so famous back then, and he really showed his mysterious world there. The plot was not so important. Some hated it and some loved it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\tComposer Angelo Badalamenti helped her as well.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cIt sounds like I sing very well, but that\u2019s movie magic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tLater, she went on to work with Robert Zemeckis, David O. Russell, Taylor Hackford and James Gray on \u201cTwo Lovers.\u201d Gray is also celebrated at Locarno this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cHe was very nice. Joaquin Phoenix was more difficult, because he followed method acting back then,\u201d she joked.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\tShe also praised Alice Rohrwacher \u2013 she worked with her on \u201cLa Chimera\u201d \u2013 and was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress for Edward Berger\u2019s \u201cConclave.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cI never think about someone\u2019s \u2018style.\u2019 I think about what I want to say.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\tShe added: \u201cThe thing is, I did everything late. I became a director in my 50s.
