\nBella Thorne is about to go full \u201cSpring Breakers.\u201d The former Disney star has revealed that in addition to starring in an upcoming sequel to Harmony Korine\u2019s 2012 cult classic, she\u2019s also directing and writing the film.<\/p>\n

\nVariety<\/em> exclusively announced the sequel and its cast in May 2025, which also includes \u201cStranger Things\u201d breakout Grace Van Dien, Ariel Martin (\u201cZombies 2\u201d) and True Whitaker (\u201cI Love L.A.\u201d). At the time, \u201cFreeway\u201d helmer Matthew Bright was attached to direct, but Thorne said in an interview on Alex Cooper\u2019s \u201cCall Her Daddy\u201d podcast that she has now stepped into the director\u2019s chair.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe producers watched \u2018Color Your Hurt,\u2019 which is the movie that I just wrapped, an early cut of it. And they asked me to write something to see if they would like it,\u201d Thorne said. \u201cAnd they loved it! And now I\u2019m writing and directing \u2018Spring Breakers 2.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cColor Your Hurt\u201d is Thorne\u2019s directorial debut, described as a coming-of-age thriller that follows a young gay man seeking acceptance in a hostile community. Production wrapped on the film in October. <\/p>\n

\n\tAsked how her sequel will differ from the original, Thorne said that 2012 was \u201csuch an exploitative time and everyone was going through it,\u201d adding that herself and fellow Disney kids Miley Cyrus, Zendaya and Selena Gomez \u2014 the last of which starred in the original \u201cSpring Breakers\u201d alongside Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and James Franco \u2014 were all \u201cbeing compared of who was going to be that next bad girl.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis time, things are different,\u201d Thorne said. \u201cThey are crazy. There\u2019s a lot of craziness, there\u2019s a lot of litness. There is so much litness in this movie.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tShe added that \u201cSpring Breakers 2\u201d involves some of the original team, including Muse Productions\u2019 Chris Hanley (\u201cAmerican Psycho,\u201d \u201cThe Virgin Suicides\u201d) and Jordan Gertner (\u201cBully\u201d). Korine is not involved, and has previously said he has \u201cno interest\u201d in the sequel.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t want to get in trouble, but what I can say is it is so litty, litty McTitties,\u201d Thorne teased. \u201cFrom start to finish, it\u2019s lit as fuck. We are having fun. If you want to go to the theater and have fun, you\u2019re going to have fun with this movie, that\u2019s for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n
