\n\tU.S.-based Pragda continues its foray into all-rights theatrical and digital distribution with the acquisition of North American rights to Nicol\u00e1s Pereda\u2019s latest pic, \u201cEverything Else Is Noise\u201d (\u201cTodo lo dem\u00e1s es ruido\u201d) ahead of its debuts at the Toronto Film Festival (TIFF) and the New York Film Festival (NYFF).<\/p>\n

\n\tThis marks the second pick-up from the 20+-year old company better known for academic licensing and cultural programming of Ibero-American cinema, following its acquisition of the Chilean historical drama \u201cThe Red Hangar\u201d by Juan Pablo Sallato.<\/p>\n

\n\tSince its world premiere at this year\u2019s Berlin Film Festival, \u201cEverything Else Is Noise\u201d has snagged accolades across the international festival circuit, including the Grand Prix at the Buenos Aires Independent Film Festival (BAFICI).<\/p>\n

\n\tNot unlike his previous pics, \u201cEverything Else Is Noise\u201d is a dialogue-driven ensemble comedy packed with cringe humor.<\/p>\n

\n\tIt stars the prolific Mexican-Canadian auteur\u2019s favorite band of collaborators, led by Teresita S\u00e1nchez (\u201cFlies\u201d), Luisa Pardo, L\u00e1zaro G. Rodr\u00edguez and Francisco Barreiro.<\/p>\n

\n\tSanchez plays Tere, a cello musician-composer in whose apartment Rosa (played by Rosa Estela Ju\u00e1rez Vargas), a contemporary music composer, arranges her first television interview.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhat starts out as a routine professional interview soon spirals into an absurdly funny portrait of the rivalries, loyalties and affections shared by three women. Interrupted by power outages, a relentlessly barking dog and the unexpected arrival of a celebrated composer, the conversation steadily unravels. As the interview falls apart, long-buried family dynamics and artistic tensions come to the surface, exposing the fragility of prestige and the resilience of human connection with deadpan humor and sardonic wit.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe acquisition also includes a broader partnership between Pragda and Pereda. Apart from \u201cEverything Else Is Noise,\u201d the company has acquired the filmmaker\u2019s complete filmography of nearly 20 pics, which it plans to bring to North American audiences through theatrical screenings, retrospective programs, educational distribution and digital releases. This would include \u201cSummer of Goliath,\u201d which took home the Venice Horizons best film award as well as top prizes from Chile\u2019s Valdivia and Bafici in 2010. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhat really captured me about \u2018Everything Else Is Noise\u2019 is how risky and hilariously political the film is\u2014 the kind of film we so need nowadays,\u201d said Marta S\u00e1nchez, CEO of Pragda. \u201cWe are especially excited to begin a broader collaboration with Nicol\u00e1s Pereda, whose body of work represents one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary cinema. Nicol\u00e1s has built an internationally recognized canon that has screened at leading festivals including Berlin, Cannes, Venice, Toronto and Locarno. Now is the time for wider North American audiences to celebrate his talent fully.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film plays at the Wavelengths sidebar of TIFF51, which runs Sept. 10-20 and in the main section of the 64th<\/sup> NYFF, taking place over Sept. 25 \u2013 Oct.12.<\/p>\n
