It\u2019s a death many fans saw coming following a season of Helaena\u2019s ominous visions and deep depression over being secluded from her young daughter, Jaehaera, in King\u2019s Landing. Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D\u2019Arcy) discovers Helaena\u2019s suicide just before the episode ends.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a tragedy. That\u2019s definitely the arc of Helaena\u2019s story,\u201d Saban tells <em>Variety<\/em>. \u201cBut I think, as she says earlier, \u2018This is my body, and this is my baby \u2014 and both of those things have been forsaken as long as I\u2019ve lived.\u2019 And she doesn\u2019t want to live the way she\u2019s living anymore, and she feels that she wants to protect the children that she does have. She\u2019s just trying her best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBefore she died, Helaena left behind the final piece of a tapestry she\u2019s been embroidering throughout all of \u201cHouse of the Dragon\u201d Season 3 for Rhaenyra to find. After the image of Rhaenyra jumping to her own death and landing on spikes, Rhaenyra sees a depiction of her on the Iron Throne with blood streaming down from the crown on her head and surrounded by dragon flames.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tDuring a press conference, D\u2019Arcy called Helaena the \u201cmoral heart of the show\u201d and predicted how her death will affect Rhaenyra heading into \u201cHouse of the Dragon\u201d\u2019s fourth and final season.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cShe\u2019s maybe the only character who has a proximity to power, but remains kind of uncontaminated,\u201d D\u2019Arcy says. \u201cAnd so, I think her death, condemns Rhaenyra to the path she\u2019s chosen. There\u2019s no way back after that. There\u2019s certainly no route back to a more moderate form of leadership. And, I mean, I don\u2019t know where we go from here, but I imagine it\u2019s likely to be impassable in her relationship with Alicent, which I think also means Helaena\u2019s death condemns Rhaenyra to be alone in her pursuit for power.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tWhile creator Ryan Condal has deviated on \u201cHouse of the Dragon\u201d from the source material in author George R.R. Martin\u2019s \u201cFire &amp; Blood,\u201d Helaena\u2019s arc has had some of the most significant changes, including the exclusion of her youngest child, Maelor. In Martin\u2019s version, Helaena dies by suicide after Maelor \u2014 who survived the \u201cBlood &amp; Cheese\u201d incident in Season 2 \u2014 is brutally murdered while she\u2019s locked up in the tower. And she is not pregnant at the time of her death.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSaban says these book plot points didn\u2019t affect her performance of the character on \u201cHouse of the Dragon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=5720\">\u2018Five Nights at Freddy\u2019s\u2019 to Open Real Freddy Fazbear\u2019s Pizza Location in 2027<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cI think you can only play the story that you\u2019re telling,\u201d Saban says. \u201cSo really it\u2019s the character that I built, and the story that Ryan and Sarah [Hess] and all the writers were creating, that was really all that felt relevant. But I know that there are differences in the stories, and I think that some of those differences are really cool. And I don\u2019t think that Helena would have been maybe such a juicy part for me personally to play if there weren\u2019t some of the differences that have been made. So you kind of just roll with the punches.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSee below for more from <em>Variety<\/em>\u2018s interview with Saban about the \u201cHouse of the Dragon\u201d Season 3 finale.<\/p>\n<h5>\n\t\tI don\u2019t know how much you follow stuff online, but Helaena has been a deeply beloved character, and even more so this season. I think people just want her to be with her chickens and her babies, so I know they are going to take this very hard, and it really mirrors what happens in the book \u201cFire &amp; Blood,\u201d because the smallfolk will take Helaena\u2019s death so hard. How do you personally feel, knowing that this is all coming? Helaena\u2019s death is really a turning point in this series.\t<\/h5>\n<p>\n\tIt\u2019s very nice to hear that, and that people care. I guess that\u2019s really what you can hope for. That one way or another, people sort of care whether you live or die. So that\u2019s very nice to hear.<\/p>\n<h5>\n\t\tDuring the finale conversation between Helaena and Rhaenyra, Helaena tells the story of a beetle she likes, and Rhaenyra\u2019s like, \u201cThat\u2019s great. You could show me sometime.\u201d And Helaena says, \u201cYou don\u2019t care. You\u2019re pretending. You\u2019re ugly.\u201d Does she now dislike Rhaenyra more than she doesn\u2019t like Aegon? What brought her to this point with Rhaenyra, and would she have previously chosen Rhaenyra as the \u201cbetter\u201d one?\t<\/h5>\n<p>\n\tInteresting. I don\u2019t know about the comparison. I think the context is so different for both of them. It\u2019s very hard to compare. The feeling from Rhaenyra is that she feels extremely violated. She feels her freedom\u2019s been violated by her and her relationship to freedom and to nature and to all of the things that feed her as a person have been taken away. So I suppose it\u2019s more than a punishment \u2014 I feel it\u2019s more like a home truth. You\u2019re looking for what\u2019s useful to you, and there are things in the world that are fascinating and beautiful, despite how they relate to like power struggles in the kingdom. And I think she just is making a point about that. That there\u2019s more to life. And actually, I think she\u2019s proud that that\u2019s how she feels.<\/p>\n<h5>\n\t\tDo you think Helaena reaches her breaking point because of Mysaria\u2019s warning to her? If she hadn\u2019t had that interaction with Mysaria, would she have kept going as she was?\t<\/h5>\n<p>\n\tI don\u2019t think it wouldn\u2019t have happened if Mysaria didn\u2019t say it, but I do think it\u2019s just another addition to the descent. There\u2019s a confirmation of what Helaena already feels, which is that she is never going to live a life again in which she feels alive. And that\u2019s kind of what Helaena says to Rhaenyra. She\u2019s like, \u201cThere\u2019s more to life than not just not being dead. Like, the bar is on the floor. I have higher dreams and hopes and feelings for the world than that.\u201d In a sense, maybe some might say that she takes power from what she does. That she can, rather than being killed by a vision, she can choose that for herself.<\/p>\n<h5>\n\t\tWe\u2019ve gotten a lot of Helaena\u2019s visions this season. Which one did you enjoy performing the most? What did you think was the most powerful?\t<\/h5>\n<p>\n\tI love all of them. I can\u2019t say that I didn\u2019t love being on the dragon. That\u2019s like a bucket list thing. We\u2019re on the dragon show \u2014 I had to get in there. So I\u2019m very grateful that was written for me. And I loved it. It was so fun.<\/p>\n<h5>\n\t\tHelaena chose to stop working on her tapestry and leave it behind where Rhaenyra will presumably find it. It looks like Rhaenyra is bleeding from the crown in that final embroidery \u2014 is that what you think that is?\t<\/h5>\n<p>\n\tI think Helaena\u2019s embroideries blend a sort of dreamlike and literal. It\u2019s an art form, so I don\u2019t think she\u2019s subscribing to necessarily always realism. But yes, it didn\u2019t look like a great portent, did it?
