\nJenna Ortega recently told Esquire that, as a child actor, she would go entire days without asking for food or water to make sure she was not \u201cin the way of anybody.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI really had it going for me as a child \u2018cause I can\u2019t think of one mistake I made,\u201d Ortega said. \u201cIs that a terrible thing to say? I feel like I make mistakes now all the time, but as a child, I was so grateful and so excited to be there that my game face was on.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPart of putting on that game face, Ortega explained, was not asking for anything on set.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI wasn\u2019t asking for a sip of water,\u201d she recalled. \u201cI would go all day without eating, drinking, whatever, because I wanted so badly to not be in the way of anybody.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOrtega added, \u201cMaybe that was my mistake, was not actually looking after myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBefore she was \u201cWednesday,\u201d Ortega got her break headlining the Disney Channel series \u201cStuck in the Middle.\u201d That show debuted in 2016, and Ortega was only 13 years old. Her other early TV credits include \u201cRichie Rich,\u201d \u201cJane the Virgin,\u201d \u201cYou\u201d and \u201cElena of Avalor.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen asked for her take on the stigmas surrounding child stars, Ortega quipped, \u201cIs it wrong to say that a lot of them are true? And do with that what you will.\u201d She later explained that \u201cthe motivation\u201d behind her career was sparked very young when she first told her parents she wanted to be an actor.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was 7 years old when I said I wanted to do this,\u201d Ortega said. \u201cMy parents laughed at me when I told them that I wanted to do it, and then that was kind of the root of everything. The motivation. And I never really stopped, because I\u2019m very stubborn. And then I never questioned it.\u201d<\/p>\n
