The veteran industry honcho underscored the exceptional lineup from Norway \u2014 nine final picks from 30 submissions, including five debuts.<br \/>On the watch list, available for sales, are two female helmers turning to horror with the backing from pedigreed producers.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe supernatural horror \u201cVagina Dentata,\u201d is the fiction debut of Oslo-based Nata\u0161a Urban, CPH:DOX winner and IDFA and MoMa selected with her 2022 doc \u201cThe Eclipse.\u201d Teaming up with her is seasoned doc producer Ingvil Giske of Medieoperat\u00f8rene, behind the Sundance winners \u201cThe Remarkable Life of Ibelin\u201d and \u201cThe Painter and the Thief.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSet in 1349 Western Norway, the female empowering \u201cThe Virtuous\u201d by Ina Grevstad is produced by Mer Film, behind \u201cSentimental Value\u201d and \u201cThe Ugly Stepsister.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAnother hot Norwegian female helmer \u2014 Jorunn Myklebust Syversen (\u201cDisco,\u201d \u201cThe Tree Feller)\u201d will direct the social drama \u201cPatience\u201d for top Norwegian banner Paradox, while Haugesund-born P\u00e5l Jackman (\u201cDetektor,\u201d \u201cThe Storm in My Heart\u201d) makes his comeback to feature film after a string of successful series (\u201cA S\u00e1mi Wedding,\u201d \u201cState of Happiness\u201d)\u00a0with the family drama \u201cDomesticated Animal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAmong other established Nordic names, Iceland\u2019s Hilmar Oddsson (\u201cDriving Mum\u201d ) will pitch the drama about Alzheimer \u201cAt the End of the Road,\u201d Finland\u2019s AJ Annila (\u201cThe Eternal Road\u201d) the period drama \u201cThe Touch of Light,\u201d and Sweden\u2019s Martina Haag the feelgood comedy \u201cTrue Love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As announced exclusively in <em>Variety<\/em>, four French projects looking for co-financing and distribution, mostly from the Nordics, will also be showcased at the Nordic Co-Production Market as part of the French Focus: \u201cAll the Softness in the World,\u201d \u201cBout\u00e8s,\u201d \u201dBoderline\u201d and \u201cTemporary Lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tA similar blend of genres, quality Nordic pics from seasoned and rising talent plays out in the 15 title Works in Progress, selected from 43 submissions. \u201cIt\u2019s been easier this year to select high quality projects in post-production, perhaps because it\u2019s harder to reach the market or harder to get international recognition,\u201d reflected Myklebust.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Animation Rules<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe industry head pointed at animation as a genre strongly featured this year across the Nordic Co-Production Market and Works in Progress with three projects in each section.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tHeadlining the slate in post is \u201cViQueens,\u201d the animation debut of Norwegian\/Dutch blockbuster habitu\u00e9 Harald Zwart (\u201cThe Karate Kid,\u201d \u201cThe 12<sup>th<\/sup> Man\u201d). Teased in Berlin and Annecy, the epic Viking tale produced by Veslem\u00f8y Ruud Zwart boasts a stellar English language voice cast including Ella Purnell, Rita Ora, Alan Carr and Anton Lesser. Sola Media handles sales.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAnother high-quality family animation pic: \u201cMillie and the Secret of the Crocodile,\u201d directed by the established Esben Toft Jacobsen (\u201cThe Great Bear,\u201d \u201cBeyond, \u201cBeyond\u201d) for Sweden\u2019s Snowcloud, has secured world distribution with LevelK, while \u201cSaajve,\u201d the first ever S\u00e1mi animation project, will be looking for sales in Haugesund.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAmong commercially-oriented names, Denmark\u2019s Christian E. Christiansen, Oscar-nominated for his short \u201cAt Night\u201c (2007), will pitch \u201cRawhood,\u201d a sequel to his 2006 hit \u201cLife Hits,\u201d produced by Zentropa; Charlotte Sieling (\u201cMargrete-Queen of the North,\u201d \u201cBorgen\u201d) the adaptation of Jette A. Kaarsb\u00f8l\u2019s historical novel \u201cThe Closed Book,\u201d produced by SF Studios; and Jens Lien (\u201cThe Bothersome Man\u201d) his much anticipated AI-driven \u201cJoe\u2019s Assignment,\u201d produced by Einar Film (\u201cHandling the Undead\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>\n\tFast-rising Swedish talent Fanny Ovesen whose \u201cLive a Little,\u201d repped by LevelK, was snatched for the U.S. by Breaking Glass Pictures last year in Haugesund, will unveil clips of her new coming-of-age pic \u201cThe Excursion,\u201d produced in Norway by Maipo Film, and Daniel Sawka his autism spectrum disorder (ASD) romcom \u201cLove and Other Disorders,\u201d pitched in 2024 at the Nordic Co-Production Market.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tMyklebust also highlighted the Norwegian documentary \u201cThe Horsemen of the Apocalypse,\u201d in which artist and filmmaker Lene Berg turns on the traumatic childhood memory of the year 1975, when her father, the famed filmmaker Arnljot Berg, was arrested in Paris, accused of the murder of his wife.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=5829\">DGA and IATSE Push Rob Bonta to Allow Paramount-Warner Bros.
