{"id":5863,"date":"2026-08-14T07:35:58","date_gmt":"2026-08-14T07:35:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=5863"},"modified":"2026-08-14T07:35:58","modified_gmt":"2026-08-14T07:35:58","slug":"rani-mukerji-receives-la-trobe-honorary-doctorate-wins-iffm-special-citation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=5863","title":{"rendered":"Rani Mukerji Receives La Trobe Honorary Doctorate, Wins IFFM Special Citation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<!-- do not apply CSS styles to this element! --><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\n\tBollywood star Rani Mukerji has been awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters by Australia\u2019s La Trobe University for three decades of work in Indian cinema and her contributions off screen, the university said. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=5861\">COL AI Studios Launches to Expand Group\u2019s Global Distribution Network (EXCLUSIVE)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\tShe is the second Indian film figure to receive the distinction, after superstar Shah Rukh Khan\u2019s honor in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cReceiving this honorary doctorate from La Trobe University is one of the most humbling moments of my life,\u201d Mukerji said. \u201cFor someone who has always believed that films can change hearts before they change minds, this recognition means more than I can possibly express.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tKhan\u2019s doctorate marked his charitable work and standing in Indian film, and came with a Ph.D. scholarship set up in his name at the university. Mukerji\u2019s own citation draws on similar ground: her screen career and the causes she has backed alongside it.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tMukerji said her film choices have always come down to what moved her personally first \u2013 stories that needed telling, that could inspire and empower. This year\u2019s IFFM, running Aug. 13-23, gathers Indian filmmakers and films from around the country as part of its wider program.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tHer filmography includes \u201cBlack,\u201d \u201cHum Tum,\u201d \u201cYuva,\u201d \u201cBunty Aur Babli,\u201d \u201cNo One Killed Jessica,\u201d \u201cHichki,\u201d the \u201cMardaani\u201d franchise and \u201cMrs. Chatterjee vs Norway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tOn the IFFM honor, Mukerji said, \u201cWhen I entered the Indian film industry as a young girl, I never imagined that one day my films and the characters that I have been fortunate enough to play, would take me across oceans and that people in a beautiful country like Australia would embrace me with so much warmth. Entertaining people across the world with my cinema is the greatest gift this profession has given me. Australia has always welcomed me &amp; Indian cinema with open arms. It has become a place where cultures meet through storytelling, where films remind us that emotions don\u2019t need passports and where love, laughter and hope speak a language we all understand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tMukerji said that the real story of a performance begins only once it reaches an audience, not when it\u2019s shot in front of a camera. \u201cTo know that for three decades my films, my characters and my voice have traveled so far from home and still found a place in your lives is incredibly humbling,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019ve been fortunate to play women who laughed loudly, loved deeply, fought fearlessly and never stopped believing in themselves. In many ways, every character has changed me a little.
