Gosling\u2019s movie will be set five years after the latest trilogy ended, with the chance that some characters may return from the \u201cStar Wars\u201d sequels. \u201cDeadpool &amp; Wolverine\u201d director Shawn Levy, a self-professed \u201cStar Wars\u201d fan, helms the new movie with a script by Jonathan Tropper.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tLevy and Gosling appeared onstage at Disney\u2019s D23 fan event Friday night to preview the film. <\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cOur movie comes out May 2027. I\u2019m honored that we\u2019re releasing our film on the same exact weekend that the original \u2018Star Wars\u2019 came out exactly 50 years earlier,\u201d said Levy. \u201c\u2018Starfighter\u2019 embodies the themes of hope and family that have always ben core to [these films]. After tuning her up, Gosling flies through alien landscapes, including massive, skyscraper-sized geysers emerging from a planet\u2019s ocean. There\u2019s also a shot of droids shooting at the ship, and Kade\u2019s robot pilot helping him take off.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe cast includes young actor Flynn Gray, who appeared in a first-look photo of himself and Gosling in character shooting in the Mediterranean Sea. Unlike past \u201cStar Wars\u201d locations like the desert planet Tatooine or the snowy Hoth, \u201cStarfighter\u201d could feature a more distinct look after the crew filmed in Sardinia, Italy. Fellow cast members include Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings and Amy Adams.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cStar Wars\u201d fans have waited a long time for another big-screen adventure since \u201cThe Rise of Skywalker.\u201d \u201cThe Mandalorian and Grogu,\u201d which continued the story of Pedro Pascal\u2019s masked bounty hunter and Baby Yoda, previously hit theaters May 22.
