\n\t\u201cSupergirl\u201d and \u201cOppenheimer\u201d actor David Krumholtz is clarifying his remarks from earlier this week about whether he\u2019s retiring from acting. Krumholtz posted on Instagram Wednesday to explain that he never used the word \u201cretiring\u201d or \u201cquitting\u201d but that \u201cI decided to put my career on hold\u201d and that he feels a \u201cburning desire\u201d to find a way to give more of himself to others in need.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cFirstly, I am very well. And I feel very loved,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI don\u2019t expect anyone to understand, but the outpouring of support for my decision has been deeply heartwarming. I am wildly grateful, as more than one of my biggest dreams have come true as a result of being an actor. Grateful to all who support and believe in me.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHowever, a time has come where the weight of those dreams and ambitions has become surprisingly oppressive,\u201d he continued. \u201cThat\u2019s a me problem, not a Hollywood as a whole problem. There are no rules that guarantee success, but I know this: an amazing career in this business consists of a small handful of triumphs, but not without a mountain of disappointments. I love my mountain of disappointments, I do, but I\u2019m human and my mountain is starting to sting more than it used to. Need time to figure that out, let it heal. My mental health is vital to my family. My career has run the gamut. I\u2019m in disbelief. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBut I find myself at a crossroads between the inherent self involvement being a professional actor requires, and a burning desire to give more of myself to others in need, in whatever way I can. And so, for the time being, I\u2019m pursuing that goal. There\u2019s still more work to come. Stuff to be seen. And as always, I really hope you enjoy what I\u2019ve put out there. Just,\u2026 gimme a sec,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n

\n\tKrumholtz posted a statement on Threads on Monday, and later deleted it, saying, \u201cI kinda sorta put my acting career on hold the other day. It\u2019s been something I\u2019ve been petrified to do for years. Specifically, the fear was that I\u2019d go broke and not be able to handle being out of the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt became clear to me this year, that if I were to continue fighting for parts (what I used to call \u2018auditioning\u2019), I\u2019d be doing so for roles that exploit my talent and reputation for a drastically diminishing return. Exploitative art isn\u2019t art. And artists deserve a fair pay percentage for work that assists their employers in making profits,\u201d he wrote in the now-deleted post.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe actor, who has also appeared on \u201cThe Studio\u201d and \u201cPokerface,\u201d has long been ambivalent about continuing his career, once telling his friend Seth Rogen he had applied to work at a car dealership.<\/p>\n
