Drawn to charismatic Salka (Hafr\u00fan Arna Levy from \u201cWhen the Light Breaks In\u201d) and the school newspaper, she begins to find her voice. But when a\u00a0traumatic drunken night resurfaces, J\u00fal\u00eda must confront shame, family responsibilities\u00a0and the courage to tell her own story, reads the logline.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSpeaking with <em>Variety<\/em>, the versatile filmmaker and performer \u00d3marsd\u00f3ttir said the idea for the pic developed when she was pregnant with her second daughter. \u201cI remember thinking about this bond we have, knowing that at some point when [my kids]\u00a0get older they will not need me as much as they do now. I am very interested in this mother-daughter bond, especially concerning the teenage years,\u201d said the helmer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAfter researching \u201cwhat it feels like being a teenager today,\u201d \u00d3marsd\u00f3ttir said she drew from the rehearsal-driven sessions with her young cast \u201cto continue the research, understand, and tell the story from their point of view.\u201d\u00a0\u201cThe whole experience was a long and exciting journey where I learned and discovered so many things. Both in visual storytelling and in human nature regarding the need to connect with someone and the need to set boundaries,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAlief partner Miguel Govea who boarded the pic at development stage said \u201cthe story and setting drew us in. Max will handle the theatrical release in Iceland.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>\u201cDriving Mum\u201d Team<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n\tIn Haugesund, J\u00f3hannsd\u00f3ttir will also pitch at the Nordic Co-Production Market another project very close to her heart: \u201cAt The End of the Road,\u201d which reunites her with the core team of the Tallinn Grand Prix winner \u201cDriving Mum:\u201d writer\/director Hilmar Oddsson, prominent actor \u00der\u00f6stur Le\u00f3 Gunnarsson (\u201cNoi the Albino,\u201d \u201cSolitude\u201d) and Hera Hilmar (\u201cMortal Engines,\u201d \u201cLife in a Fishbowl\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIn it, Le\u00f3, a renowned geriatrician specialized in Alzheimer\u2019s disease, develops an unconventional friendship with \u00c1sd\u00eds, a psychiatrist who\u2019s returned to Iceland to care for her ailing grandmother. When \u00c1sd\u00eds discovers that Le\u00f3 himself is developing Alzheimer\u2019s, both are forced to confront buried secrets.<br \/>J\u00f3hannsd\u00f3ttir said she contributed to the development process with Oddsson and Gunnarsson as all have personal experiences about Alzheimer\u2019s. \u201cSitting together, the three of us, and discussing the script was among the most rewarding experiences of my career as a creative producer,\u201d she told <em>Variety<\/em>, underlining that the tone will remain darkly humorous. \u201cI think a lot of people familiar with the disease will relate to the tragi-comedic side of Alzheimer\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cAt the End of the Road\u201d will \u201chopefully be both funny and dramatic, poetic, dreamlike, and realistic all at once,\u201d said Oddsson in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIn Haugesund, J\u00f3hannsd\u00f3ttir will be looking for co-producers, co-financiers, sales and distribution.<br \/>Commenting on the fact that \u201cJust and Kid\u201d and \u201cAt the End of the Road\u201d are the only Icelandic projects selected for the popular the Norwegian Intl.
