\n\tEmilija Ga\u0161i\u0107\u2019s folk horror \u201cWolf Days\u201d and Filip Mojze\u0161\u2019 family drama \u201cThe First Week of August\u201d won the top prizes in the Sarajevo Film Festival\u2019s CineLink Industry Days, the industry section focused on projects in different\u00a0stages of development from Southeast Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.<\/p>\n

\n\tGa\u0161i\u0107\u2019s sophomore feature, which is produced by Serbia\u2019s Non-Aligned Films and co-produced by Istok Films and Restart,\u00a0won the Eurimages Co-Production Development Award, a cash prize of \u20ac20,000 ($23,000).<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film follows a woman facing menopause who turns to a folk healer who draws her into a series of increasingly ridiculous rituals, driving her to the edge of madness in search of her own liberation. Ga\u0161i\u0107\u2019s first feature, \u201c78 Days,\u201d premiered in the Bright Futures section of the Intl. Film Festival Rotterdam.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a director\u2019s statement provided to\u00a0Variety<\/em>, Ga\u0161i\u0107 said: \u201c\u2018Wolf Days\u2019 is inspired by my encounters with many women who have been misdiagnosed, dismissed and misunderstood within a deeply patriarchal healthcare system. This film seeks to uncover and challenge the taboos surrounding women\u2019s health, especially menopause, and to expose the power imbalances that define both medical and personal relationships.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe\u00a0Eurimages Special Co-Production Development Award, also a cash prize of \u20ac20,000 ($23,000), went to \u201cMamayi,\u201d from Ukrainian writer-director Oleksandr Roshchyn and producer Packgauz. Set in 2009, the film follows two TV reporters forced into a dirty election campaign for a pro-Russian candidate who struggle to stay honest with their work and the people.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film marks the directorial debut of\u00a0Roshchyn, known as the cinematographer behind films including 2021 Berlin Crystal Bear winner \u201cStop-Zemlia\u201d and 2025 Berlin Golden Bear contender \u201cTimestamp.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDuring a lengthy assignment in Ukraine, I began observing and imagining the personal drama of a journalist unfolding against the backdrop of pivotal socio-political events,\u201d Roschchyn said in a director\u2019s statement. \u201c[\u2018Mamayi\u2019] is a film about witnessing the approach of a catastrophe \u2014 about the ability to foresee it and the inability to prevent it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the Works in Progress strand, the HBO Award in the amount of \u20ac30,000 ($35,000) went to\u00a0Filip Mojze\u0161\u2019s \u201cThe First Week of August\u201d (pictured),\u00a0produced by Tamara Babun Zovko and Matija Drnikovi\u0107\u00a0for Wolfgang&Dolly and Black Photon. The family drama is set during an idyllic island vacation that takes a tumultuous turn when a mother\u2019s sudden physical outburst towards her 10-year-old son exposes hidden tensions and lingering conflicts within the family.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs with his previous short films, which premiered in competition at Sarajevo, Mojze\u0161\u2019 feature debut \u201calso explores complex family dynamics,\u201d he said in a director\u2019s statement. \u201cIn that sense, the film represents a natural continuation of my ongoing preoccupation with the fragility of the nuclear family.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAlso in Works in Progress, the Post Republic Award, offering \u20ac30,000 ($35,000) in post-production services, went to \u201cThe White Week,\u201d directed by \u202fBojan Vuleti\u0107\u00a0and produced by \u202fJelena Mitrovi\u0107, Boris T. Mati\u0107, Lana Mati\u0107, Danijel Ho\u010devar and Ivan \u0110urovi\u0107 for Film House Ba\u0161 \u010celik, Propeler Film, Vertigo and Artikulacija. The film follows an 11-year-old boy who exploits his brother\u2019s tragic death to fight his father and his community, until his lies expose the hypocrisy and corruption beneath a seemingly moral society.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Avanpost Media Award, offering \u20ac30,000 ($35,000) in post-production services, went to Kazakh director Assel Aushakimova\u2019s \u201cPay the Bill,\u201d produced by Assel Yerzhanova for\u202fFilm Film Film. It tells the story of a 65-year-old woman who receives an unexpected late-night phone call from a police officer, leading to a difficult night and day searching for her daughter that\u00a0plunges her into a world of general indifference.<\/p>\n

\n\tOther prizes handed out in the CineLink Co-Production Market include the Film Center Montenegro Award, which gave a \u20ac10,000 ($11,700) cash prize to Turkish director Selcen Ergun\u2019s \u201cHow to Disappear in the Lake.\u201d The Kosovo Cinematography Center CineLink Award in the amount of \u20ac10,000 ($11,700) went to \u201cThe Taste of the Peach,\u201d by Georgian filmmaker Elena Mikaberidze, who also received the Next Step Studio CineLink Award. The Artekino International Prize in the amount of \u20ac6,000 ($7,000) went to \u201cForbidden Fruit,\u201d from Slovenia\u2019s Ur\u0161ka Djuki\u0107 Lecamus.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the CineLink Drama strand, the Croatian Audiovisual Center Drama Award in the amount of \u20ac15,000 ($17,500) went to the family drama series \u201cYou Can Always Come Back,\u201d from creator Tena Goji\u0107\u00a0and writer Hana Ju\u0161i\u0107. The TV Drama Vision Pitch Award went to the Croatian political thriller \u201cStringers,\u201d from writer-creator Nikola Kupre\u0161anin.<\/p>\n

\n\tLastly, the Female Voices CineLink Award, a \u20ac20,000 ($23,000) cash prize handed out in partnership with the Slovenian Film Center and the United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, went to the horror-comedy series \u201cLittle Yugoslavia,\u201d from writer-creators Teona Strugar Mitevska and Sonja Prosenc.<\/p>\n
