Kennedy Jr. lashed out at CNN anchor Erin Burnett, claiming she is afflicted with \u201cTrump Derangement Syndrome\u201d that has left her without \u201ccommon sense\u201d or \u201cbasic arithmetic.\u201d RFK Jr., Trump\u2019s Secretary of Health and Human Services, was complaining about a report on \u201cErin Burnett OutFront\u201d that found one of his \u201caffordable\u201d meal plans was far pricier than he asserted.<\/p>\n

\nCNN\u2019s Aug. 19 report about RFK Jr.\u2019s recipe claims, by correspondent Tom Foreman, did not explicitly refer to Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn his report, Foreman checked out what it would cost to buy the ingredients for a meal described on RFK Jr.\u2019s \u201cThe Real Food Show\u201d cooking show on YouTube. While the health secretary claimed the dinner for a family of four \u2014 wild Alaskan salmon cakes with a white-bean salad \u2014 came in at just $19.64, Foreman tallied the price of the necessary groceries at a local chain store at more than three times that: $70.54.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a post Thursday evening on X, RFK Jr. railed against CNN and Burnett over the piece.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cTrump Derangement Syndrome has so debilitated @ErinBurnett that she has abandoned both common sense and basic arithmetic,\u201d the health secretary wrote, referring to a term Trump routinely uses to describe people who criticize the president.<\/p>\n

\n\tRFK Jr. continued, \u201cCNN wants us to incorporate the full package price of every ingredient, regardless of what is used in the recipe. If you put a squirt of ketchup on your burger, would you be surprised if the restaurant charged you for the whole bottle?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to RJK Jr., \u201c\u2018The Real Food Show\u2019 uses standard recipe costing: we count what the recipe actually uses. The rest stays in your kitchen for the next meal \u2014 and the meals after that.\u201d He concluded his post with this: \u201cOur goal is simple: help Americans reclaim their kitchens, cook healthy food without breaking the bank, and stock their pantries with high-quality ingredients they can use again and again. That\u2019s how we Make America Healthy Again.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tRFK Jr.\u2019s tweet quoted a post by \u201cOutFront\u201d with a clip from Foreman\u2019s report, which said, \u201cCNN remakes one of the \u2018affordable\u2019 meals from RFK Jr.\u2019s new cooking show. It should cost under $5 per serving, but what\u2019s the real price point? @tomforemancnn reports.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn his report, Foreman noted, \u201cHHS insists this is standard recipe-costing methodology, and they want to help Americans stock up on high-quality ingredients they can use across many meals.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe source of the discrepancy, Foreman explained in the three-minute segment, is that RFK Jr.\u2019s total grocery bill prorated certain ingredients for only the amounts used in the recipe. For example, \u201cThe Real Food Show\u201d tabulated the cost of just one egg \u2014 whereas you typically cannot buy just a single egg from a grocery store. And while RFK Jr.\u2019s accounting for the avocado mayonnaise put the cost at 40 cents because they were only using a couple of tablespoons for the recipe, Foreman found purchasing a whole bottle cost more than $11.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThey\u2019re only pricing parts of it, and grocery stores don\u2019t sell things that way,\u201d Foreman said.<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter preparing and trying the dish, Foreman said, \u201cIt\u2019s certainly tasty and it appears healthy.\u201d However, he said, \u201cI do not see, having made this, how you can walk into a grocery store with $20 and come out with what you need to make four plates of this for a family.\u201d<\/p>\n
