Its lineup and panels at this week\u2019s Rio2C show that it\u2019s going for the jugular, appealing to Brazilian audiences passion for melodrama, fandoms and soccer yet also taking into account the extraordinary diversity of Brazil and its viewers.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe new titles are announced after Netflix Brazil shows and movies have begun to feature frequently in the U.S. Global Top 10 charts, the most recent \u201cRadioactive Emergency,\u201d from \u201cNarcos\u201d director Fernando Coimbra and Gullane, and the most-watched non-English series on Netflix over March 23-29.    \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\tTha said, \u201cwe create for Brazilians first, and that is true for every country where we do original content. Stories like the recent hits \u2018Radioactive Emergency,\u2019 \u2018Rivers of Faith,\u2019 \u2018Caramelo\u2019 and \u2018Rules of Fortune\u2019 explore diverse aspects of Brazilian culture \u2013 regional perspectives, social phenomena, and the country\u2019s complexities,\u201d Francisco Ramos, Netflix VP content Latin America, told <em>Variety<\/em> in the runup to Rio2C where Netflix has the busiest agenda of any company attending.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tHaving announced its first legal drama, \u201cHabeas Corpus,\u201d last December, Netflix is now revealing \u201cMed\u201d its first Brazilian medical series, starring Clara Moneke, who broke out in 2023 telenovela \u201cNever Give Up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cBrazil is an important market with a diverse audience that constantly challenges us to be bold in our stories and to keep innovating in genres, formats, and narratives,\u201d Ramos added. <\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cTo produce this content, we have built strong partnerships with the local creative community,\u201d Ramos said. That shows in the new titles. \u201cMed,\u201d for instance, is produced by Paranoid, co-headed by Heitor Dhalia, director of \u201cDrained,\u201d \u201cAdrift\u201d and \u201cBald Mountain\u201d and Netflix hits \u201cCriminal Code\u201d and \u201cRulers of Fortune,\u201d a Netflix Global No. 1, Non English Shows, over Nov. 3-9. 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tA documentary on sailor Tamara Klink\u2019s Arctic voyage marks Netflix\u2019s first production with high-flying Maria Farinha Filmes. An open marriage comedy sees Netflix partnering with Manas Filmes, launched in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tNetflix also announced Monday its third melodrama \u2013 its particular brand of telenovela\/series hybrids \u2013 teaming with Banijay Entertainment\u2019s A F\u00e1brica, behind \u201cDesperate Lies,\u201d Netflix\u2019s first \u201cmelodrama\u201d in Brazil and a hugely popular title.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cMelodrama always captures Brazilian audiences, regardless of pace or length. Mixing telenovela emotion with series\u2011style plot agility creates a powerful blend that feels close and true to life,\u201d Elisabetta Zenatti, Netflix\u2019s VP of Content in Brazil. \u201cBrazilians connect strongly to these stories because they evoke the sense that what\u2019s on screen could happen to you, a friend, or a family member.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tEye-catching too among the new titles is \u201cOs crentes,\u201d about a group of evangelical friends.\u00a0Said Zenatti: \u201cBecause we serve a wide range of audiences, we have many stories that touch on the topic [of evangelism] from different perspectives. From emotional specials like Deive Leonardo\u2019s to heartwarming films like \u2018Unexplainable\u2019 and documentaries such as \u2018Apocalypse in the Tropics,\u2019 we offer options for a diverse audience connected in some way to this theme.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cMed\u201d stars Clara Moneke but also features a cast of rising young talents.\u00a0\u201cBrazil has one of the most passionate fandoms,\u201d Ramos commented. \u201cWe have several shows with both BR icons and brand new talent to premiere in \u201826. Only in \u2018Brasil 70,\u2019 which is premiering on May 29, for instance, we have Rodrigo Santoro and Bruno Mazzeo, well-known actors, and Lucas Agr\u00edcola, a new face that will make you think you\u2019re seeing Pel\u00e9 again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tRio2C, Latin America\u2019s biggesr creativity forum, runs May 27-31 in Rio de Janeiro. A closer look at the five new titles:<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>\u201cMed\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n\tSet in a university hospital, \u201cMed\u201d captures \u201cthe intense daily life of young doctors in training, exploring the emotional, ethical, and human challenges of the profession,\u201d said Zenatti. Series marks the first fiction series created and showrun by Helena Petta and Ana Petta, behind \u201cQuando Falta o Ar,\u201d a 2024 Cinema Brazil Grand Prize nominee. Ana Petta also starred in Gullane\u2019s \u201cBasic Health Unit,\u201d which has run to date to three seasons, bowing in 2016. Lead writers are Gustavo Bragan\u00e7a, a key writer on Netflix hit \u201cGood Morning, Ver\u00f4nica,\u201d Aline Portugal, a best screenplay co-winner for \u201cThe Reservoir\u201d at Brazil\u2019s Vitoria Film Festival, Jo\u00e3o Costa Van Hombeeck, Thays Berbe, a writer on Cao Hamburger\u2019s \u201cAs Five\u201d and Victor Hugo Valois, a writer on \u201cBasic Health Unit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>\u201cOs crentes\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n\tWhich could translate as \u201cThe Believers.\u201d The title is described as a \u201ccomedy special about a group of evangelical friends who get together for a meeting full of surprises.\u201d It is produced by Sony Pictures TV\u2019s Floresta, behind Rose d\u2019Or Latino winner \u201cShark Tank Brasil,\u201d Intl. Emmy nominee \u201cLuz\u201d and HBO Max novela \u201cDo\u00f1a Beja. It is also created by a group made up solely of Christian screenwriters. For Zenatti, \u201c\u2018Os Crentes\u2019 is another angle we\u2019ll explore to strengthen this offering [of programming featuring evangelism]\u00a0\u2013 and the fact that it is written by Christian writers connects it even more with audiences who share this belief.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Untitled Tamara Klink Arctic Documentary\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n\tIn 2025 Klink sailed solo the Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific in 45 days, becoming the first Latin American and second woman to achieve the feat. Details of the title are nit yet available but it sits well with Maria Farinha Filmes, whose projects profile extraordinary women pioneers whether artist activist Claudia Andujar or Black gymnast Daiane dos Santos. Klink is quick to relate her achievement and climate change. Banijay Entertainment\u2019s A F\u00e1brica, behind Desperate Lies, coming in at 17 episodes, will once more produce. Netflix announced a second melodrama\u00a0 last December, about the secrets and intrigues of an elite Rio de Janeiro family, created in partnership with Amaia Produ\u00e7\u00f5es and Conspira\u00e7\u00e3o, with general direction by Mauro Mendon\u00e7a Filho.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Untitled Open Marriage Comedy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n\tA comedy about open marriage created by Alexandre Machado, co-creator of \u201cFilhos da P\u00e1tria,\u201d starring Fernanda Torres, and directed by Jos\u00e9 Alvarenga Jr. (\u201cDesejos S.A.\u201d) The comedy is set up at Manas Filmes, a S\u00e3o Paulo-based production house set up in 2024 by Bel Berlinck, the long-time O2 Filmes producer, and Joana Cooper.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>What Else Is in the Hopper for Netflix Brazil?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe five new Netflix titles join 12 other titles set to premiere over 2026-27. Potential highlights among the already announced dozen include \u201cHabeas Corpus,\u201d with \u201cUnder Pressure\u201d star and Any Gabrielly; \u201cA Estranha na Cama,\u201d which sees high-flying crime writer Raphael Montes (\u201cScars of Beauty,\u201d \u201cPerfect Days\u201d) adapting his own novel, and \u201cRauls,\u201d Netflix\u2019s second project with YouTube urban rap channel phenomenon Kondzilla and LB Entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tCo-creator Heitor Dhalia and Paranoid will deliver both \u201cRulers of Fortune\u201d (\u201cOs Donos do Jogo\u201d) Season 2, inspired by the criminal underworld spawned by the illegal lottery game \u201cjogo do bicho,\u201d and police action thriller \u201cCriminal Code\u201d (\u201cDNA do Crime\u201d) Season 3.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n\tGabriel Martins (\u201cMars One\u201d) is directing \u201cOn Behalf of My Son\u201d (\u201cVicentina Pede Desculpas\u201d), produced by Filmes de Pl\u00e1stico. Vicente Amorim is directing an adaptation of Paulo Coelho\u2019s \u201cThe Pilgrimage\u201d (\u201cO Di\u00e1rio de Um Mago\u201d), produced by Gullane and starring Rodrigo Santoro and Johnny Massaro.<\/p>\n<p>\n<strong>Netflix at Rio2C<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n\tNetflix will stage or take part in six panels and events at Rio2C.
