\nKevin Hart is speaking out about Tony Hinchcliffe\u2019s controversial set at his Netflix roast.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYeah, the George Floyd joke, it wasn\u2019t a tasteful joke to our culture, to our audience, but our audience that\u2019s watching the roast, if you\u2019re watching the roast, you get why they\u2019re doing it. You get why the racial humor is on the table,\u201d Hart said Tuesday on \u201cThe Breakfast Club.\u201d \u201cI wasn\u2019t shocked. That\u2019s what they do. Go look at [The Roast of] Tom Brady, like, that\u2019s what they do. It happens every year when they do a roast.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs noted by Hart, Hinchcliffe\u2019s joke about George Floyd, a Black man who was murdered by police in 2020, was met with particular backlash from critics. During his set, Hinchcliffe told Hart, \u201cThe Black community is so proud of you. Right now, George Floyd is looking up at us all laughing so hard he can\u2019t breathe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen asked if he thought the \u201cKill Tony\u201d host ever crossed the line, Hart said, \u201cI don\u2019t expect less. I don\u2019t expect more.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cTony Hinchcliffe arguably had the best set or one of the best sets,\u201d Hart explained. \u201cPete [Davidson] had a great set, too. Pete had a Charlie Kirk joke in it. Like, would I tell those jokes? No. But do I get why they\u2019re being told? Yes. I\u2019m not looking at Pete crazy. I\u2019m not looking at Tony. That\u2019s what I know you\u2019re going to do. I know your style of comedy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHart also made sure to emphasize that he doesn\u2019t want any part of the discourse surrounding the controversial material at his roast.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhatever the dialogue is, my rebuttal is simplicity,\u201d Hart said. \u201cRemove me from it. I didn\u2019t say it. If you are upset that the night went on, that\u2019s a different conversation. It\u2019s nothing I could do. It\u2019s a production.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAbout a week after \u201cThe Roast of Kevin Hart\u201d aired on Netflix, roaster Chelsea Handler slammed the jokes of Hinchcliffe and host Shane Gillis as \u201cracist\u201d and \u201csexist.\u201d She took particular issue with a joke told by Gillis, in which he said that Hart is \u201cso short, you\u2019d have to lynch him from a bonsai tree.\u201d (Gillis maintained during the live broadcast that the joke took \u201cthree weeks of deliberation.\u201d)<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was gross. I don\u2019t find those jokes to be funny \u2014 jokes about lynching Black people,\u201d Handler said. \u201cLynching is not a joke. That\u2019s worse than rape. You\u2019re not joking about rape, are you? \u2026 You know you can\u2019t do that, but you can say \u2018lynching\u2019?\u201d<\/p>\n
