\n\tCurrently shooting in the south of Chile, the new Movistar Plus series turns on Alicia (Itu\u00f1o) whose son Noah (Unai Arana) disappears without trace in Chile\u2019s Patagonia. She flies from her native Bizkaia to try to find him, encountering in Patagonia a wild land of ancient forests and illegal logging mafias.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHer search becomes a desperate race where each clue reveals new threats and old family wounds,\u201d the synopsis ends.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cPatagonia\u201d is described by Movistar Plus as \u201cmelding eco-thriller elements and a powerful and universal family drama.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe series initiated production in April in Hornopir\u00e9n, the northern gateway to Patagonia and home to millennial alerce tree forests. It will continue there until the end of May when it transfers to the Basque Country for two weeks.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis is an intense and emotional story, set in a place of breathtaking beauty,\u201d said Itu\u00f1o. Alicia begins her desperate search for her adolescent son in a wild, unknown territory, confronting her own guilt and fears. Shot in Chile\u2019s Patagonia by a team from different cultures and nationalities, this has been a impactful experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u2018Patagonia\u2019 is born from the necessity to tell a profoundly human story in one of the most moving and extreme territories on the planet,\u201d noted Mar\u00eda Elena Wood.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe series exposes the fragility of human bonds faced by nature, power and survival. An emotional thriller which challenges its characters to transform their visions of the world to find what they are looking for,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

\n\tSince at least \u201cHierro,\u201d Movistar Plus has made series with international partners. What marks \u201cPatagonia\u201d apart, as one of its first series with Latin American partners, is that its creators are Chilean: Mar\u00eda Elena Wood and Patricia Pereira. Doyenne of Chilean TV producers and a pioneer of premium series production in Chile, Mar\u00eda Elena Wood\u2019s multiple credits include Platino Prize best series winner \u201cNews of a Kidnapping,\u201d \u201cDignity\u201d and \u201cRamon.\u201d Pereira was a producer of \u201cMary & Mike\u201d and \u201cDignity\u201d as well as the movies directed by Maria Elena Wood\u2019s brother Andr\u00e9s Wood from 2004\u2019s \u201cMachuca\u201d to 2019\u2019s \u201cSpider\u201d (\u201cAra\u00f1a\u201d).\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cPatagonia\u201d is backed by not only Spain\u2019s Diputaci\u00f3n Foral de Bizkaia, the government of Bilbao and environs Basque province, but also Chile\u2019s CNTV, its governmental TV agency, and Televisi\u00f3n Nacional de Chile, the country\u2019s public broadcaster.<\/p>\n

\n\tRodrigo Susarte (\u201cGen Mishima,\u201d \u201cInvunche\u201d), most latterly director of breakout high-concept sci-fi thriller \u201cHidden Island,\u201d a title at 2026\u2019s Berlinale Series Market Selects, is directing all six episodes of \u201cPatagonia.\u201d It is written by Luis Barrales (\u201cMary & Mike\u201d) and Anastasia Ayazi (\u201cMy Sad Dead\u201d).<\/p>\n

\n\tKey cast takes in Kandido\u00a0Uranga\u00a0(\u201cMaspalomas\u201d),\u00a0Pablo Macaya\u00a0(\u201c42 Days of Darkness\u201d),\u00a0Marcelo Alonso\u00a0(\u201cEl club\u201d),\u00a0Sara Becker\u00a0(\u201cThe House of the Spirits\u201d), Trinidad Gonz\u00e1lez\u00a0(\u201cA Fantastic Woman\u201d) and Patricia Cuyul\u00a0(\u201cSpider\u201d).<\/p>\n
