Returning to his hometown years later, he discovers that locals are wagering money on the exact hour his terminally ill father will die. With sunrise as his deadline, he races to dismantle the syndicate behind the scheme while reckoning with his own troubled history. The story draws from real-world reports of underground death-betting circles documented in Taiwan.<\/p>\n<p>\nDaniel Hong, a double Golden Horse nominee recognized for \u201cMiss Shampoo\u201d and the Cannes-selected \u201cMongrel,\u201d leads the cast. He is joined by Ng Ki-pin, a Golden Melody Award winner whose recent credits include \u201cG Precinct,\u201d and Yao Yi-ti, a Taipei Film Award winner and Golden Horse nominee known for \u201cDead Talents Society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tChan is a Golden Horse Film Academy graduate whose work \u201cViatical Settlement\u201d received seven Golden Bell Award nominations. The deal was negotiated by Shi and Cathy Ni for EST N8, and by producer Vincent Chen for inJECT Films.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201c\u2018Dead End\u2019 is a story born from the shadows of our society, and we can\u2019t wait for global audiences to experience this journey,\u201d Chen said.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cDead End\u201d slots into an EST N8 Cannes lineup that includes Rezwan Shahriar Sumit\u2019s IFFR Big Screen Award-winning \u201cMaster\u201d; Awi Suryadi\u2019s \u201cDanur: The Last Chapter,\u201d the conclusion of a landmark Indonesian horror franchise and the country\u2019s highest-grossing film of 2026; and Kimo Stamboel\u2019s \u201cJanur Ireng,\u201d a prequel to the 2023 box office hit \u201cSewu Dino.\u201d Also on the slate are Tetsuya Mariko\u2019s \u201cDear Stranger,\u201d starring Hidetoshi Nishijima and Gwei Lun-Mei; the Raindance-selected \u201cThe Invisible Half\u201d; and Julie Pacino\u2019s Fantasia-premiered \u201cI Live Here Now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tEST N8 was formed through the combination of EST Studios \u2013 founded in 2022 by Jaeson Ma and Eric Tu \u2013 and N8, the Bangkok-based studio launched in 2023 by Kris Eiamsakulrat and Rachel Y.
