In a related ruling, Cooper granted a request by U.S. Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio) for a preliminary injunction to block Trump \u2014 for now \u2014 from taking any further steps toward closing the institution. Trump earlier this year had said the Kennedy Center would shut down for two years starting July 4, 2026, to undergo a \u201ccomplete rebuilding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cThe Court has concluded that the Board overstepped its statutory bounds by unilaterally renaming the Kennedy Center after President Trump,\u201d Cooper wrote in his May 29 ruling on Beatty\u2019s motion. \u201cCongress gave the Kennedy Center its name, and only Congress can change it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBecause the Kennedy Center board is \u201ccurrently in violation of Congress\u2019s express statutory direction, the Court will order that they remove President Trump\u2019s name from the institution\u2019s title, as represented on the fa\u00e7ade of the Center, any other physical or digital signage, and official materials,\u201d the judge said in the ruling.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tReps for the Kennedy Center and the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/relocationobserver.com\/?p=982\">Court Formally Clears Hernan Lopez, Former Fox TV Exec and Wondery Founder, of Bribery Charge<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\tLegal experts have previously said the renaming of the center is illegal, because a 1964 federal law established its name as \u201cThe John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts\u201d after the slain president and explicitly prohibits the board of trustees from adding any other name to the building\u2019s exterior. In December, Beatty sued Trump and the Kennedy Center\u2019s board seeking to force the removal of Trump\u2019s name from the organization.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAfter his re-election to a second term as U.S. president, Trump ousted the Kennedy Center\u2019s previous Democratic board members and management team and\u00a0installed himself as chairman. In December, the White House said the Kennedy Center\u2019s board of trustees (who were selected by Trump) voted unanimously to rename the facility the \u201cTrump Kennedy Center.\u201d\u00a0The purported full new name is \u201cThe Donald J. Trump and John F.
