“After 20 years spent chillin’, tokin’ and bonin’, Ali G is shocked to discover that his long-term girlfriend, Julie (Morgana Robinson), is eight months pregnant,” its official synopsis reads. “Faced with an extra mouth to feed, he gets off his batty and heads to America to reclaim his former glory… but soon encounters adversaries who will ultimately threaten his and his child’s very existence.”
Cohen first developed the titular character as part of Channel 4’s “The 11 O’Clock Show” in 1998 before getting his own series, “Da Ali G Show,” in the early 2000s. 2002 brought the release of the first Ali G movie, “Ali G Indahouse,” which was helmed by “Succession” director Mark Mylod.
Cohen filmed “Who Iz I?” in secret, just like he did with “Borat,” “Brüno” and his TV series “Who Is America?” Cohen’s brand of comedy revolves around him embodying outlandish characters and then provoking a reaction from onlookers. As Ali G, he’s interviewed Noam Chomsky, Andy Rooney and Newt Gingrich.

The three-time Oscar nominee unveiled the project in a video posted to his Instagram in July. In character as Ali G, he captioned the post, “Dey haz finally made a documentary about me. And it ain’t dat crap one about da penguins, dis one haz got at least twice as much animal sex.”
The film marks Cohen’s directorial debut, and he also serves as writer and producer under his Four by Two Films Banner. Petr Jákl and Emily Kob are executive producers.
Outside of his own films, Cohen recently played the villainous Mephisto on the Marvel Disney+ series “Ironheart.” He also starred in “Ladies First” for Netflix and “Balls Up” for Prime Video.
“Ali G: Who Iz I?” hits theaters on Oct. 23. Check out the trailer below.
