James McAvoy will join Variety for a conversation about his work and perspective on the evolving art of storytelling, including his work directing and producing “California Schemin.’” He also stars in the film “Faith,” premiering at TIFF.
The Future in Focus event will also feature an intimate conversation with Rachel Morrison, Academy Award-nominated cinematographer and director of “Love of Your Life,” also premiering at TIFF. Moderated by Variety senior entertainment writer Angelique Jackson, the conversation will explore Morrison’s creative process and approach to filmmaking.
In other highlights, Stephanie Ahn, writer and director of “Bedford Park”; Carsten Kurpanek, Head of Production at Utopai Studios and editor of “Coyote vs. Acme”; Liz Garbus, Director of “Give Me the Ball!” and Co-founder, Story Syndicate; Rebel Wilson, director, writer and actor of “Girl Group”; and Basil Iwanyk, producer and founder and CEO, Thunder Road Films will participate in a panel discussion looking at innovation in filmmaking, spanning the latest trends in AI, immersive storytelling and more. During the panel moderated by Matt Donnelly, Variety Executive Editor, Film, panelists will share how they are building compelling worlds and characters in film now.
